What an AML-flagged transfer means and what to do
Updated 22 September 2026 · compiled by the editorial team from the services' own pages
Services that need no account still run AML checks on the coins that arrive. Most transfers pass without anyone noticing; a flagged one is held and verification is requested.
A flag is not an accusation. It usually means the coins passed through an address on a sanctions or mixer list at some point in their history — possibly several owners before you.
- Read the AML policy before you send, not after. Every service in the table states whether checks are run and what is requested — that is a scored criterion here.
- Keep the source of your coins. An exchange withdrawal or a purchase receipt closes the question quickly.
- Ask what exactly is required and by when. Vague answers are themselves an answer about the service.
We earn a commission when you open an exchange through the links on this page. It does not change your rate and does not move anyone up the list — the ranking follows the published method. One service in the table is our own: it is marked «our service», scored by the same criteria and can be checked the same way. How this site is funded
Check before you send
- The service's AML policy is read before the transfer — it says what is checked and what is requested.
- The source of the coins can be shown — an exchange withdrawal or a purchase receipt closes it.
- The requested documents and the deadline are named in writing — a vague answer is itself an answer about the service.
Mistakes that cost the most
- Sending coins straight from a mixer or a flagged address. The flag follows the coins through several owners.
- Arguing instead of sending what is asked. The hold lasts until the check is closed, not until you win.
Questions
Does a flag mean I did something wrong?
No. It usually means the coins passed a listed address at some point in their history, possibly long before you.
Can I avoid checks entirely?
No service promises that — the honest ones publish when checks are run, and that is a scored criterion here.
